Development of RE & EE Demonstration Projects and Accessible
RE &EE Funding Mechanism
The following objectives were set in the course of selection
of potential sites for demo projects:
-
To demonstrate that application of
clean energy solutions in Georgia, both in urban and
rural areas in community facilities, local
self-government or NGO/CBO operated public and social
welfare institutions has the potential in meeting energy
demand, resulting in energy bill and emissions’
reduction;
-
Capacity building of local targeted
beneficiaries (CBOs, local self-governments, etc.) in
developing, implementation and monitoring sustainable
energy projects;
-
Capacity building of local workforce
on the installation and maintenance of RE &EE
installations;
-
Raise awareness among other
communities and stakeholders throughout Georgia on
practical results of the application of clean energy
solutions.
In the reporting period the search and
identification of possible small-scale RE &EE projects was
carried in several regions of Georgia, including Shida and
Qvemo Qartli, Kakheti, Samtskhe-Javakheti and Imereti. All
the information obtained was systematized and data base of
116 potential sites by regions/districts including possible
RE & EE projects for each site, project investment cost,
achievable energy and money savings, estimation of reduced
emissions was developed.
After the consultations with BP in

Implementation of selected
demonstration projects:
1. Energy Efficient Measures in
Tsereteli Kindergarten (Marneuli district, Qvemo Qartli)
The project envisaged the
introduction of such energy efficient measures as
replacement of 5 inefficient wood stoves with energy
efficient wood stoves, replacement of 50 incandescent
light bulbs with CFLs.
Implemented energy efficient measures
will enable the kindergarten to save annually about 5 m3
of fire wood and 400 kWh electricity and decrease 5955
kg.CO2 emission.
2. Energy Efficient Measures in
Bebnisi Kindergarten (Qareli district, Shida Qartli)
The following energy efficient
measures were implemented:
-
In two rooms six single glazed
windows were replaced with double glazed windows in
PVC frames;
-
Two entrance doors were replaced
with PVC ones;
-
Three big window openings (with
the area 16.5m2) were insulated with the utilization
of Knauf insulation materials;
-
Three existing inefficient wood
stoves were replaced with locally manufactured
energy efficient wood stoves;
-
In two common rooms the floor was
insulated with felt supported linoleum.
Implemented energy efficient measures
will significantly improve indoor environment for the
children and enable the kindergarten to reduce energy
expenditures – save annually about 4 m3 of fire wood and
reduce by 4390 kg the CO2 emissions.
3. Solar Energy for Qedeli
Community
The following energy efficient
measures were implemented in Therapeutic Union for
Adults with Mental and Physical Disabilities-Community
Qedeli, Sighnaghi, Kakheti:
-
The solar thermal vacuum tube
active pressurized system with 400 litre water tank
connected with existing hot water supply and heating
system working on natural gas was constructed on one
of the buildings.
-
To ensure outdoor lighting by two
LED projectors of the community territory 50 W
capacity micro solar PV plant was constructed
Implemented energy efficient measures
will significantly improve living conditions for
community inhabitants, enable the Qedeli community save
annually 2740 m3 of natural gas and 420 kWh electricity,
reduce energy expenditures as well as reduce by 5365 kg.
the CO2 emissions.
4. Energy Efficient Measures in Tsalka
kindergarten (Tsalka, Qvemo Qartli)
The implemented project in Tsalka
kindergarten envisaged the introduction of such energy
efficient measures as replacement of 30 incandescent light
bulbs with CFLs , replacement of 4 inefficient wood stoves
with efficient ones, weatherization of 18 double pane wooden
windows and 5 interior doors and replacement of 3 exterior
old wooden doors with PVC ones. The implementation of the
project was completed in January 2013.
Implemented
energy efficient measures will enable the kindergarten to
reduce energy expenditures - save annually about 8m3 of fire
wood and 990 kWh electricity, and decrease 9180 kg. of the
CO2 emissions.
The information
board and poster describing the implemented energy efficient
measures will enable kindergarten visitors to get acquainted
and learn more about implemented measures, get information
about the project donor and expected energy savings resulted
from the application of the energy efficient technologies.
The launch
event of the completed project has been postponed several
times due to unfavorable weather conditions-heavy snowfall
preventing travel to Tsalka.
5. Renewable
Energy & Energy Efficient Measures in Gurgeniani Rangers’
House (Lagodekhi Protected areas)
The implemented
project in Lagodekhi Protected Areas Gurgeniani Rangers’
House envisaged provision of the off- grid rangers’ house
and adjacent territory with clean electricity from the 240 W
capacity autonomous micro PV solar plant, weatherization of
the windows of rangers’ house with additional glazing to
reduce heat losses and introduction of energy efficient wood
stove.
Implemented
measures will result in provision of Gurgeniani rangers’
house and adjacent territory with electricity for lighting,
significant improvement of indoor environment, reduction of
energy expenditures – annual saving of about 4 m3 of fire
wood and 750 lt. of diesel fuel as well as reduce by 6400
kg. the CO2 emissions.
The project has
