Training "Community Development and Energy"

Within the USAID Georgia Energy Security Initiative project "Horizonti" foundation funded Energy Efficiency Center Georgia to conduct "Renewable Energy Technologies and Energy Efficiency" training sessions for the representatives of nine communities. The communities from various regions of Georgia were selected by "Horizonti" foundation. 
The training sessions were conducted in the following villages (see photos):

In Georgia the majority of rural population including that from the above listed villages experiences the shortages in energy supply. The rural population mainly uses biomass (wood and hay) for heating and cooking causing damage to forests.
One of the criterions for the selection of village community for participation in the training was access to locally available renewable energy sources, which will provide possibilities for perfection the population's energy supply. This in its turn will promote small business development in rural communities. 

During the trainings the representatives of local rural communities were acquainted with the ways of utilization of renewable energy sources, energy efficiency measures and relevant environmental issues. The training participants got practical recommendations on simple energy efficiency measures, rational utilization of locally available renewable energy sources through the selection of the most acceptable energy project.

In all the above villages the educational seminar including the quiz for the 7-10 grade pupils on the utilization of renewable energy sources and environmental problems was conducted. Each participant was awarded with the certificates and the quiz winners got prizes.
