Expansion and Improved
Management Effectiveness of Adjara Regions Protected Areas
Implementation of the
Action Plan for Undertaking Field Testing of Selected
Technical Solutions in Machakhela National Park Support Zone
villages
Project duration: October 03, 2016– October30, 2017
Recommended measures for field
testing for the winter 2016/2017 include:
-
Switching from fuel wood
to such alternative fuels as sawdust briquettes,
hazelnut shells and/or coal;
-
Introduction of two types
of energy efficiency stoves, in particular: energy
efficiency stoves for burning the hazelnut shells and
energy efficiency stoves for burning coal;
-
Introduction of solar
thermal collectors in households for hot water
preparation to replace fuel wood usage for this purpose;
-
Raise awareness of the
population on no-cost, low –cost energy efficient home
weatherization measures by demonstrating them the
practical examples of how implementation of such
measures could result in efficient heating and increase
of comfort level in the house;
-
Raise awareness of the
population of the target villages on efficient
utilization of the consumed fuel wood through provision
them with information on proper storage of fuel wood;
-
Raise awareness of the
population on the implemented energy efficiency measures
in the households in the target villages by providing
them with information on types of fuels tested as
substitute of fuel wood, energy efficient stoves used
for various fuels and solar energy systems for hot water
preparation by dissemination among the population
informational leaflets.
Scope of Activities to be
Performed for Field Testing of Selected Technical solution
-
Switching from fuel wood
to alternative fuels: sawdust briquettes and hazelnut
shells
-
Testing the sawdust
briquettes at Kedkedi public school classroom during the
winter 2016-2017;
-
Testing the hazelnut
shells at Kedkedi public school classroom and at
selected households willing to participate in fuel
testing and co-financing the testing;
-
Introduction of energy
efficiency stoves for burning the hazelnut shells and
briquettes
-
Modernization of existing
wood stoves owned by testing participant population to
burn hazelnut shells;
-
Introduction of energy
efficient stove for burring briquettes at Kedkedi public
school;
-
Introduction of energy
efficient stove for burring hazelnut shells at Kedkedi
public school;
-
Introduction of solar
thermal collectors in households for hot water
preparation to replace fuel wood usage for this purpose
-
Capacity building & public
awareness: Micro demo home weatherization activities,
publication & dissemination of thematic leaflets
covering tested technologies
-
Implementation of micro
demo weatherization of windows and doors with no
cost/low cost materials affordable to majority of
families on several sites (households and school)
-
Publication and
Dissemination of several types of leaflets covering such
issues: asproper storage and handling of fuel wood,
simple home weatherization, energy efficient stoves for
various types of fuels, biomass fuels (briquettes,
hazelnut shells) used as fuel wood substitute in
Machakhela villages, solar energy systems for hot water
preparation
-
Monitoring and evaluation
of tested measures at sites
-
Periodic collection of
data from testing participants, development of
monitoring reports;
-
Conduct survey to evaluate
the results of the0 impact of the tested technologieson
the participants, community,on preservation of forest
resources from cutting, costs for consumed energy.
